A bold and sculptural piece of California modern pottery, this handcrafted stoneware vase was designed by Robert Maxwell for Designs West in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Known for his expressive forms and richly textured surfaces, Maxwell helped define the West Coast studio pottery movement of the era. This vase features a dramatic inverted-flare silhouette with a deep central opening and a richly layered matte glaze. Earthy olive green covers most of the body, accented by expressive drip patterns in rust, copper, ochre, and reddish-brown tones. Subtle abstract swirl designs wrap around the surface, creating depth and a volcanic, organic feel. Retains its original foil label reading “Handcrafted Stoneware by Designs West, California U.S.A.” (partially worn). A beautiful and collectible studio piece that brings texture, warmth, and presence to any modern interior. In very good vintage condition with light wear and a partially worn label. Felt pads added to the underside to protect surfaces. 8.5" in diameter and 11" high.
