A striking vintage Japanese Tamba Tachikui ware studio pottery bowl with a substantial wheel-thrown form and beautifully expressive glazing. The deep black-brown glaze is accented by flowing areas of olive green, gray, cream, and subtle blue, creating an organic, almost landscape-like effect across the interior and exterior. The bowl is wheel-thrown and hand-shaped, with an intentionally irregular, gently undulating rim and pronounced horizontal throwing lines that emphasize its handmade character. The combination of the dark glossy glaze, natural variations in color and texture, and asymmetric form gives the piece a distinctly wabi-sabi quality while retaining a sculptural, modern presence. The underside is largely unglazed and bears an incised potter’s signature. The bowl is accompanied by its original Japanese literature identifying it as Tamba Tachikui ware (丹波立杭焼), one of Japan’s historic pottery traditions. Very good vintage condition with minor variations and irregularities inherent to handmade studio pottery and the glazing process. No obvious chips or cracks visible. 9.75" wide, 9.75" deep, and 2.75" high.
