A vivid and eye-catching decorative artwork featuring a traditional Japanese print on silk, mounted over a lightweight board. The central image, a romantic ukiyo-e portrait of a couple beneath an umbrella, is surrounded by panels of floral and geometric patterns, all set against a bold red-orange silk background. The composition is signed in Japanese characters as “drawn by Gamaro” (哥麻呂筆), echoing the classical Edo-period woodblock tradition. The print appears to be transferred or screen-printed onto silk, giving the surface a soft texture and subtle sheen. The silk is wrapped around a compressed fiberboard or thick paperboard backing, with a hanger affixed to the reverse for wall display. There is no external frame; the silk is stretched cleanly around the rigid board, giving the piece a minimal, contemporary finish. The silk surface lends a tactile softness to the image, while the crisp lines and graphic composition reflect traditional Japanese aesthetics. A printed panel with gray floral motifs borders the scene along the left and lower edge, adding layered visual interest. The composition features a bold orange-red ground that contrasts with the central image. The figures are rendered in crisp black, white, and soft peach, with accents of pale pink and deep green in their robes. Subtle touches of gold, charcoal, and gray add depth, while the floral border panel provides a neutral counterpoint in gray and white. The palette strikes a balance between vibrant color and harmonious restraint, rooted in tradition yet graphically bold. Good vintage condition. There are a couple of visible wrinkles in the silk, along with minor edge and corner wear and a few small marks consistent with age and handling. 15” wide, 0.25” deep, and 19” high.
