This piece was made in Austria by Otto Adler, as per the brass tag. It was likely made between the years 1909 and 1938 as a high quality reproduction piece, or a "Stilmubel" imitating Baroque or Rococo revival styles. One of our customers (a self-proclaimed local amateur historian) has let us know that Otto Adler was one of the many Jewish business owners in Austria persecuted by Nazi Germany in 1938. While the origins of this piece has a tragic history, the fact that it has perservered all these years and made it's journey to our little shop shows Adler's legacy lives on. This beautiful furniture piece is made of walnut and walnut burl veneer and lots of intricate inlay work. The top is hand carved and the front is serpentine. The roomy cabinet base is divided by one shelf and has 2 drawers above it and a pull out writing surface above that! There is a bit of damage to this piece, including veneer and trim that is damaged or missing, and the finial on top is loose and needs to be glued back on. Even with it's flaws, this piece is a stunner. Most retailers would price this at $1,000-$1,500 as-is, but we are letting it go for a mere $500! Measures 51 x 72 x 28
