This vintage handwoven lidded basket is a finely executed example of traditional Southeast Asian basketry, likely originating from Indonesia, Thailand, or the Philippines. Made from natural rattan or similar plant fiber, the basket features a tightly coiled and meticulously handwoven structure throughout, demonstrating uniform tension and craftsmanship. The rounded, bulbous form flares gently at the shoulder and tapers slightly at the base, creating a pleasing silhouette that emphasizes both function and form. The removable lid fits snugly and is adorned with a starburst motif woven in a contrasting darker tone. This decorative motif is echoed along the interior and exterior walls of the basket in a subtle diamond pattern that appears through tonal variation in the natural fibers, likely achieved through selective dyeing or aging of materials. The inside of the basket is clean and smoothly finished, showing the same level of craftsmanship as the exterior.
