This finely crafted pedestal side table was produced for Artwood, a cooperative gallery representing Northwest studio woodworkers, and is attributed to Jim Hessel, as noted on the original gallery tags included with the piece. The table exemplifies late 20th-century American studio furniture, with a strong emphasis on material contrast, precise joinery, and architectural form. The square top features a framed construction with striking figured wood grain and linear inlay details arranged on the diagonal, creating a subtle graphic composition. A matching lower shelf echoes the same inlay motif, visually tying the structure together. The table is supported by four slender vertical legs that rise from a square base, giving the piece a light, open stance while maintaining excellent stability. According to the accompanying Artwood documentation, the table incorporates multiple hardwoods, including cherry, claro walnut, ebony, and cocobolo, used both structurally and decoratively.
