Signed batik artwork by artist Louise "Lou" Wilson depicting two quail nestled among tall grasses and vegetation. The composition uses layered brown, ochre, gold, cream, and black tones to create a detailed naturalistic wildlife scene.Batik is a textile art technique that uses wax as a resist to control where dyes penetrate the fabric. Repeated applications of wax and dye allow the artist to build layered colors, patterns, and contrasting areas throughout the composition. This work is signed "Lou Wilson" in the lower right corner. It is presented under glass with a wide neutral-colored mat and a simple wood frame. The reverse is enclosed with paper backing and fitted with hanging wire.A decorative example of signed batik textile art combining wildlife subject matter with the distinctive layered effects of the wax-resist process.
